Does God Exist?
Disclaimer: “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:”
Romans 1:20 KJV
This is one of the most asked questions about the one true living God, Yahweh. Who is the beginning and the end, the first and the last, the alpha and the Omega, THE I am that I am. Does the creator of it all exist? Well, for some, the answer must be a resounding no because if the answer were yes, then what does that mean for their life? For their choices? For their future? For life after death?
I have good news! For those who pose this as a genuine question to these people, the answer to does the all-powerful, all-knowing, glorious, wrathful, and ever-present God exist….by God’s grace, with all certainty, I can emphatically say, absolutely, yes, and amen! Now go… and enjoy the rest of your day!
But for those that the answer yes does not suffice, it may be that you are looking for a more extensive answer. If God does exist…prove it.
THE PROOF IS IN HIS DIVINITY AND GLORY
Well, let's get to it then! Where better to start than in His Word? What source could be more accurate? What recording could be greater than the divinely inspired Holy Scriptures? What artifact is more genuine than God’s Word? To parade any here would mean I think God needs supporting data. I don’t. By God’s grace, I choose to accept who God says He is at His Word. So, I guess that’s where I will start and end.
Genesis chapter 1 tells of Yahweh's creation of the world. It didn’t always exist, but the vast Universe was created. God details how he and when he created what we see today. This is further stated in Psalm 90:1-2, God was in existence before it all. John 1 expresses plainly that God was here from the beginning.
And because He is God and the creator of everything, everything he creates belongs to and is kept by Him, Psalm 95:3-5.
He is present in His people. In His provision for them as stated in Isaiah 43:20-21. His Spirit indwells those of His elect who have placed their faith in His Son, Jesus Christ, Matthew 5:14-16.
Nature tells of His Glory. Job 12:7-10. God, who not only created the natural order, provides for it, and maintains it all, is Lord over it all. These things work together as if they were planned out perfectly. They were. The uniqueness of each organism as it fits into it’s habitat. All without the needed interference of man.
WHO CREATED GOD?
Genesis and John point to God being here from the beginning. God has always been, just as he is good and powerful, and just He IS the beginning. God has always existed, even before the foundation of heaven and earth and everything in it; he was.
I personally find it comforting that my God is not only over time and space; he is its very existence. It reminds me of that Sunday School song I loved as a child, 'He's got the whole world in His hands… '(Don't worry, I have not provided a link to me singing, that is joyful noise I will spare you from).
BUT IS THERE REALLY A GOD?
This question is similar to the first but usually is vastly different in motive. This is often less of an actual question and more of an indirect challenge. If God does exist…convince me.
How arrogant must I be to think that I, a servant of the Most High can convince you of what apparently my master did not? Furthermore, all Glory be to God; that’s not my job.
Not what you were expecting, huh? Well then, you may ask, what is your purpose here? Please allow me to divulge what my heavenly father has called me to do. As a Saint, who God calls His beloved, what I am directed to do as a disciple of Jesus Christ, is to contend for the faith. Not argue, not debate, not do the work of the Holy Spirit. My calling is to minister the gospel.
To be emphatically unwavering, immovable, planted on the rock on which I stand boldly in my confession and conviction of who God says He is in His Word, what He has done, and what he will do. To give a defense for the hope that I have…that hope is Jesus Christ.
That God the father sent his only son, Jesus Christ, to die for the sins of His people and to rise again on the third day. If His people would repent of their sins, confess with their mouths, and believe in their hearts that God has raised Jesus from the dead, they would be saved.
You Know, But You Deny the Truth
No, it is not my task or any other Saint to convince you to acknowledge what God has made evident in and through creation, through nature, through His people, and in His Word. Nope, it’s our graciously bestowed privilege from God, as His servants, to point you to the divine Glory of Yahweh, who is the prover, let His will be done, and get out of the way.
